"When I was quite young I would drag injured animals home and try to fix them up" I have worked in veterinary hospitals since 1985. I started at a five doctor practice as a kennel person and learned to help with radiographs, surgery and treatment of pets. In January 1993 I started working at Woodside. I really enjoy the people and pets I work for and with. Even when I was quite young I would drag injured animals home and try to fix them up. I was very lucky to not be bitten. It drove my mother crazy, especially when it was a snake that would appear in the house with a bandage on it! But she is also the source of my love for animals. My parents generally supported my animal craze and I was always surrounded by ponies, cats, dogs, sheep and many other creatures that taught us all abut love and compassion. I have had no formal education in animal care. I have always been an avid reader and learn a lot by reading about problems animals have and how they are solved. Working in a veterinary hospital has been a dream come true for me. Sometimes it is frustrating or very hectic as is any job, but with the pets we deal with there is always a way to take a break and get yourself calmed down. Just go talk with an animal!
I live within sight of the clinic with my family of pets. I have two dogs, two cats and Dr. Dan. One is an elderly Poodle - Trixie who saved from euthanasia when the owner had to go into a rest home. Trixie probably needs to be in a rest home herself! My other dog is Gustav who is also a Poodle. Gustav stays busy running the household. I also live with two cats. Oyl is a one-eyed cat. As a kitten there was an infection in the eye and it had to be removed. It doesn't hurt her abilities at all. My latest addition is Gifford an absolutely insane butterscotch and white neutered male. When I have any spare time, I work in my greenhouse. Being the "Lettuce Lady" is my second job. Dr. Dan and I grow and sell about 1100 heads of hydroponic lettuce year around. I like to try new things. I once decided to learn to crochet and ended up with an afghan big enough to cover my queen-sized bed and drag on the floor all around it. It was the only thing I ever crocheted and it took me three years to finish. I sometimes get carried away in my enthusiasm. I enjoy woodburning and photography. My pictures tend to be about animals. I tried target shooting and found that I am pretty good with .22 rifle, but I dont really have the time to make myself consistent and am not as competitive as I should be. My oldest hobby is collecting frogs. I started in high school and have well over 400 of all varieties. They are made of all types of materials. Glass, cast iron, plastic, ceramic, etc. Some of them are useful and some are decorative. Some are plain old ugly, but it is fun to find a new one. Computers are a big piece of my life. I was afraid of them until I started working at Woodside and with Dr. Dans help I have learned a lot and now am on my fourth PC and almost ready for a fifth. The Internet is such a vast source of information and fun! I dont know how I lived without it! Just A Few of My Pets
